Hi Dez,
Do you have any advice on filming a decent performance video of an artist/band? I want to film my duet performing for use as reference when trying to get gigs. Does black and white make it look more artsy? Are multiple camera angle necessary, or can I get away with one camera on a tripod?
Thanks,
Chris
Hey Chris,
Black & White is pretty cool. Although, you’ll have to decide for yourself if it fits your “brand image” or not.
Having more than one camera angle always looks more “professional” so, I recommend it if possible. Even if the second angle is simply your phone, I say do it. I’m sure you can rent or borrow another camera or two for this purpose.
Ideally, I’d have two static cameras on tripods and have a volunteer with a third camera to add some movement and closeups to the mix.
Import all the footage into iMovie or something similar and edit from there.
Also, if you can, record the audio separately so you can get the best sound possible.
It sounds like a daunting endeavor but it will be well worth it in the end!
Thanks Dezz,
I like the idea of using the phones and a volunteer cameraman.
I will be recording and mixing the audio separately. I’m going to throw up every channel I can, then combine the direct and room mics.
Happy Music Making!
Chris
