In this episode we take a look at the plugins used to arrive at the final mix of “Paper Pedestals” by Sarah Fazackerley. This was recorded in my living room (with the exception of the drums) and everything was performed by Sarah except the Bass and Drums.
The bass was provided by Brock MacArthur. You can hire him to play on your own record by visiting www.BasslinesOnline.com
The drums were provided by Rob Brown. You can hire him to play on your own record by visiting www.RobBrownOnDrums.com

Great track by Sarah Fazackerley. The breakdown really lets you hear the difference each time you’re changing the mix. Thanks!
Thanks for posting this Dezz, very helpful.
(BTW, your voice is clipping throughout – painful to listen to unless I turn it way down)
Hey, Dezz, can this quality of mix be achieved in garageband? I don’t have money for a real daw, but I’m really trying to get good.
You can do this type of work in GarageBand. One thing you might want to add is a high quality plugin bundle (not absolutely necessary but helpful). Perhaps I’ll do a GarageBand mix to demonstrate sometime 😉
That would be amazing. Beats what I’ve found on youtube by a long shot.
I’m hearing a lot of distortion in the mix examples (including the pre-mix examples). Is this intentional or maybe it’s MP3 artifacts that I’m hearing. It just sounds like most everything is too hot.
BTW… Great podcast! Very entertaining and informative. 🙂
