In episode 12 we have a little chit-chat (and demonstration) about the basics of phase and polarity as it relates to your music productions. What should you listen for? How do you check for phase issues in your recordings? If you have any further thoughts on the topic, leave a comment here or over at the TechMuze Facebook page.

Hey Dez!
Great show as always – always looking forward to hearing the new episode!
One thing you might want to keep in mind regarding phase is that it’s frequency dependent.
The distance between two mics might be in phase for a specific frequency (and it’s octave overtones), but it will most likely be out of phase to some degree for everything else.
When testing out phase for a tonal instrument, I’ll typically get the musician to play what the fundamental / tonic note of the song is going to be and make sure that that is in phase – that’s the note you want to “pop”.
Just something to keep in mind!
Cheers, D
Wise words my friend! That’s exactly why I’ve been listening to “Inside Home Recording” for years! The tips keep coming!
