Todays mix tip is short and sweet! I’d like to share a listening technique that will help you to determine if you have any level balance issues in your mix. Don’t be fooled by the simplicity! This really helps.
Hey guys, Dezz Asante here from the TechMuzeAcademy with a very quick mix tip for you today. I’m just going right into it.
Basically, what I want you to experment with is, as you get deeper into your mix and you’ve spent maybe an hour or two making some critical listening decisions on your balances – is to turn your mix up in volume, louder than you would actually sit and listen and leave the room. Head to a different room. If you’re in the basement, go upstairs. Leave the doors open. You know, maybe head outside even and maybe crank it up so you can hear it.
I find that this helps me to detect any balancing issues that I might have between my tracks – if the vocals are too loud, if the vocals are not loud enough. This type of things become a little more apparent and obvious when you crank it up and leave the room and have a listen from somewhere else.
Like I said, a very, very quick tip today and we’ll see you next time.
I am especially enjoying the latest episode which analyzes each of the elements in the mix. Gonna give it another listen on mys studio monitors (as opposed to in my car) to really hear what's going on in the mix. Well done!
