As some of you know, I’ve been pretty passionate about teaching people the art and science of mixing audio for a long time! From hosting recording and mixing clinics for schools and other groups to one-on-one private sessions (not to mention the 40 hours/week I spend offering free advice at my day job in the recording department at Long & McQuade Music!). I get a great feeling of purpose and meaning when I get to hear a wicked mix from someone I’ve taught from scratch. There’s nothing like it in the world! I hope the information you get from TechMuze helps you to get the music from your head to other people’s ears quicker and more accurately than ever before. I will continue to provide you with tips and tricks here at TechMuze.ca as long as I am able to! Let me know what you want me to cover and I’ll do my best to get it to you. Or, if your shy like that, just keep checkin’ back until you muster up the courage to leave a comment!
On the topic of learning to mix, my buddy Joe has put together an awesome 10 week power mixing bootcamp that you should definitely check out. He provides you with comprehensive video tutorials that walk you through the mix decisions used on his own record, “Out Of Indiana”, but more importantly, you get the complete multitrack sessions used as examples to practice with in your own home studio! This is the absolute BEST way to learn to mix that I’ve seen in a long time! You can communicate with Joe to get questions answered and have him critique your final mixes when your ready. 10 years ago it cost me $10,000 to attend the Trebas Institute for my education and i still couldn’t mix a drink let alone a record! The only way you could learn to mix faster than this educate/practice/feedback approach is to use that wicked chair they had in The Matrix! Check it out here and let me know how it worked out for you.
